Save The Tree

We are going to save one of the largest old Oak trees on
Beachside
New Smyrna Beach, Florida

This Oak tree is on a small 35' lot next to our home that not only provides fresh air but also needed shade. This lot was for sale for $59K to the public. Before I could buy it, it was sold to a developer for only $37K. I found this out once the sign went up. This poor tree could be saved if it was 6" taller with a 4' wide trunk and then the city would require a special permit. I went to the city but instead of them going to measure it, they called the developer, so he paid for a survey and of course it's just a bit short to be called a historic tree. Look at it yourself, even if it doesn't quite meet the city law, don't you think it should be historic and saved? There are many other 50ft. empty lots in our neighborhood that don't have any big trees that could be used instead. So I contacted the developer and he is working with me if I can come up with $55K (plus closing cost, taxes and a small amount to clean the lot so we can make sure this tree survives...by August 8, 2012. As somewhat the price may be reasonable, the timeline is NOT. I am desperately trying to get a loan but the funds will not be available in time. This Oak tree is one of the last beautiful large oaks in our neighborhood that will be destroyed to build a "Squished" 20ft. wide two story cottage. The cottage is an "out of character design" (that doesn't match our neighborhood) and it is only for a SPEC! Our neighborhood is mostly 1 story homes and this would block a beautiful view.
Please help us save this tree. We promise to take care of it and keep it healthy for life and for future generations. If we receive the amount to save this tree, any other funds will be donated to "Arbor Day Foundation".
